CBD oil: How it works and how to use it
CBD is a non-euphoric cannabinoid – the therapeutic substance in the cannabis plant. Hemp-based CBD has remarkable potential to improve your health. Most studies reveal that CBD can be beneficial when used in the proper ratio and dosage to replace synthetic medications.
How CBD works
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), CBD supports the movement of qi – meaning vital life force – which calms the mind and reduces inflammation. Studies reveal that this substance is beneficial for anxiety, nausea, seizure disorders, and arthritis pain. CBD holds these benefits because it essentially puts your body in a relaxed state and triggers the parasympathetic system. This lowers your cortisol levels, helping to counter the effects of stress.
CBD is also a neuroprotective antioxidant more potent than vitamin C, meaning that it protects the health of your brain. The substance also binds to TRPV1 receptors1, which help to transmit and modulate pain and control inflammation.
In addition, CBD slows the rate at which natural endocannabinoids are broken down, allowing them to linger in your system for longer and have a greater effect. Your body contains an endocannabinoid system, which is where neurotransmitters and receptors are located. This system produces natural endocannabinoids –which are cannabis-like chemicals – to keep your body healthy. The endocannabinoid receptors are located all over your body, including your brain, skin, bones, organs, immune cells, heart, glands, blood vessels, muscles, and digestive tract. The endocannabinoids system helps your body maintain homeostasis, meaning that it allows it return to a stable internal environment.
Consult your doctor or naturopath to get your recommended oral dosage. Most health issues can be treated with 10 to 40 milligrams a day. For specific conditions, refer to these recommended dosages:
For general wellness, take 10 to 50 milligrams of CBD oil a day
For chronic pain, take 10 to 100 milligrams of CBD oil a day
For epilepsy, take 50 to 300 milligrams of CBD oil a day
For sleep disorders, take 40 to 160 milligrams of CBD oil a day
For schizophrenia, take 40 to 1,000 milligrams of CBD oil a day
For glaucoma, take 20 to 40 milligrams of CBD oil a day
